Jesus, Buddha, and the Quest for Shambhala

Shambhala is a Sanskrit term meaning “place of peace/tranquility/happiness.” In the Tibetan Buddhist tradition, Shambhala is a mystical kingdom hidden within the Himalayas, accessible only to those with sufficiently good karma. Many fusions of New Age and Buddhist spirituality also view Shambhala as a spiritual reality that can be taken hold of through a combination of proper meditation, mindfulness, and right living.

Every summer the Shambhala Music Festival draws thousands of people from around the world. They seek a state of bliss defined by harmony and joy. Their pilgramage is a quest to enter Shambhala, securing peace and unity in a world of violence and division.

In this public talk pastor Jeff Strong of Nelson Evangelical Covenant Church will provide an overview of the core spiritual teachings of both Jesus and the Buddha, and explore each teacher's understanding of how to enter Shambhala.

A question and answer time will follow the presentation.

The talk begins at 7:00pm at Nelson Covenant Church. All are welcome.
